Installation and Troubleshooting
Explanation of the Hasp key
POSSUMweb is currently protected by a licensing scheme developed by Aladdin Knowledge Systems. It is able to use a single-user (local) dongle protection or a USB stick like device. Alternatively, there is a network floating license option for institution license, which requires a HASP HL Network key and driver to be installed on one of the hosts in your local area network. If you need more information about the HASP, please refer to this link : http://www.aladdin.com/hasp/default.aspx
For your information, here is an explanation of how the USB key works on your network:
When hardware-based Product Activation is chosen, the software is activated and can be used in accordance with the license terms only after a HASP HL key is connected to the end-user's PC. Sentinel HASP's innovative LicenseOnChip technology securely stores the license and its terms on the HASP HL key. Software protected with a HASP HL key can also be purchased and delivered over the internet with Sentinel HASP Product Activation. The end user can then immediately begin using the software, while waiting for the physical HASP HL key to arrive.
You can plug the network key to any of the network connected workstation, server or USB hub. The software is smart enough to locate the hardware usb on your network subnet. Thus, you don't really need to put the key on the installed workstation. For example, if you decided to put the key on the USB hub, all the installed computers will communicate with the network security usb key via the USB hub network connection.
For your information, an offsite user will be able to utilise the network key license model via VPN connection back to your organisation's network. If VPN is not an option, the only option will be a standalone key.
How do users reach the database?
POSSUMweb software is designed based on the client-server model. Thus, the POSSUMweb software on the client side will fetch data straight from the central server after the user successfully passed the authentication layer on the server. Each user will be given a unique account id and password. Usually this unique account is the same as contact email.
